Email Analytics

Track how your broadcasts and sequences perform with open and click metrics.

How Tracking Works

When you send emails through Session, we automatically track:

  • Opens - When a recipient opens your email
  • Clicks - When a recipient clicks a link in your email

This data helps you understand what content resonates with your audience.

Viewing Analytics

Broadcast Analytics

After sending a broadcast, view its performance:

  1. Go to Pages in the main navigation
  2. Open the page you broadcast
  3. Look at the Distribution History section
  4. Click on a broadcast to expand its analytics

Sequence Analytics

Track how each email in a sequence performs:

  1. Go to Collections
  2. Select a collection with an active sequence
  3. Click Sequence Status
  4. View per-email open and click rates

Email Dashboard

Get an overview of all email activity:

  1. Go to Admin in the navigation
  2. Click Email Analytics

The dashboard shows:

  • Total emails sent (last 30 days)
  • Overall open rate
  • Overall click rate
  • Recent broadcasts with performance metrics
  • Active sequences

Understanding Your Metrics

Open Rates

Open rates typically range from 30% to 70% depending on your audience and content. Higher rates suggest:

  • Strong subject lines
  • Engaged audience
  • Relevant content

How Opens Are Tracked

Opens are tracked via a tiny invisible image in the email. Some email clients block images by default, so actual opens may be higher than reported.

Click Rates

Click rates show how compelling your calls-to-action are. They're calculated as a percentage of sent emails (not opens).

A 5-15% click rate is typical for engaged audiences.

Improve Open Rates

  • Write clear, specific subject lines
  • Send at consistent times
  • Segment your audience for relevance

Improve Click Rates

  • Make links prominent and descriptive
  • Include one clear call-to-action per email
  • Place important links early in the email

Privacy Notes

  • Analytics data is aggregated—you see totals, not individual behavior
  • Members can still unsubscribe at any time
  • Tracking follows industry-standard practices used by all major email platforms
